Outreach from the lab

In the lab, we pair all of our “academic” projects with outreach work to ensure our findings are understandable to the general public. We also work to make sure that our work has direct benefits for the communities we work with. This means outreach to teachers and learners of languages, work with elected representatives, and sharing our work in creative ways outside of academic conferences and articles. Below are two examples of ongoing outreach in the lab.

Public talks

Our lab cares deeply about connecting to our community. Many members of the lab enjoy presenting publicly. This is an example of a public talk through TEDx UOregon in 2019.

Sharing with our community

It is important that our work be shared outside of the lab and outside of the scientific community. We have worked to develop workshops, training programs, and articles aimed at sharing our findings more broadly.

Collaboration

As part of our outreach initiatives, we collaborate with the Eugene Science Center.

Exhibits

We’ve created one exhibit in collaboration with the ESC with others in progress. We also participate in Meet A Scientist Day each year.
